CM Sindh hands over land documents to Chinese UEG Group for wind project

Karachi,  Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that China and Pakistan are two friendly counties having cordial relations since long time and it is very encouraging that after Shaheed Zulifkar Ali Bhutto, the efforts of President Asif Ali Zardari have enhanced socio-economic cooperation for the benefits of people of both countries.

This he observed while addressing Land Award Ceremony of United Energy Group (UEG) 5000 MW Wind project, held at CM house on Wednesday evening.

He said that due to frequent inter-country visits between Pakistan and China, various Chinese firms are coming ahead for investment and the project initiated today will pave way for prosperity and development.

He said that for further strengthening the relations in all fields, Sindh Government has started Chinese learning classes which will be a successful effort to provide facilities of latest technologies to each other.

Chairman of the United Energy Group Zhang Hong Wei thanked for the cooperation of Sindh Government particularly the Chief Minister Sindh for cooperating with regard to allotment of land for UEP wind energy project.

He said that United Energy Group is one of the leading energy sector investor in Pakistan, Particularly in the province of Sindh.

He said that primary focus of UEG is on exploration and production of oil and gas and the company has strong foothold in eight districts of the Sindh province. He further said that UEG�s assets consist of 9-producing and exploration blocks in Sindh and four offshore exploration blocks in the Arabian Sea.

Wei added that as per the commitment with the government of Sindh during the visit of office at delegation to Beijing in November 2011 and with continuous efforts by Sindh Board of investment, UEG has been able to commence work on 150 MW wind power project located in Thatta and Jamshoro districts, for which land has been allocated today.

He added that the project will be enhanced up to 500MW, for which all the feasibility study work has been undertaken including the environmental impact studies, grid connectivity, soil testing as well as the technical layout and design of the wind farm in one year time and will be in a position to commission by the year 204.

Chairman SBI Zubair Motiwala while providing details of the project said that the second phase of 350 MW will be initiated for which UEG has already signed on Lol with the Alternative Energy Development Board of Pakistan. Sindh Secretary of BOI Ms. Naheed S. Duurani also highlighted the objectives of the project.

Later the ceremony of the handing over of Land lease agreement documents was held. Chief Minister Sindh and Chinese delegation also exchanged gifts.

The ceremony was attended among others by Chairman Sindh Revenue Board Nazar Hussain Mehar, Provincial Secretaries of Environment, Mir Hussain Ali, Coal, Sohail Rajput principle secretary, to CM Agha Jan Akhtar Member Land Utilization BOR and others.
