Islamabad, National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance directed Federal Board of Revenue FBR to control plastic granules (dana) smuggling into the country.
Presiding NA Committee meeting, Khawaja Sohail Mansoor said loss of billions of rupees was incurred due to smuggling. “More than 20,000 bags of plastic granules per day are being smuggled from Iran but FBR not taken any step.”
“FBR is doing its best to control menace. We face resources constraint and staff shortage” Member Customs FBR, Muhammad Riaz said. FBR will use all its resources to control it, he assured NA Committee.
NA Committee also directed FBR to come up with viable proposals to increase capacity to improve Directorate of Intelligence & Evaluation performance and gear up efforts to control smuggling especially on borders of Iran and Afghanistan with Pakistan. It was told 3% goods transported to Afghanistan were carried by National Logistic Cell NLC, 97% by private carriers and some portion by Railways too.
Khawaja Sohail said about 400-500% price of imported items were under-invoiced causing loss worth of billion of rupees to national exchequer. He said China declared $12 billion exports to Pakistan but FBR declared $4 billion imports from China – difference of $8 billion.
Director General (Evaluation) FBR Razia Sultana said if any valuation ruling went unfavorable for importer, he got stay order. She said cases worth of over Rs 100 billion were still pending in courts.
